The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition offers to the students the scientific background for the rational copping with scientific and technological issues in the food area. Furthermore, it promotes the existing knowledge in the Food Science and Human Nutrition through research and development programs conducted in collaboration with other Greek and foreign Universities and Research institutes as well as with research and development departments of small and large Greek food industries
Key Objectives of the Department
The Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition aims at:
Educating scientists to have a solid background in science, technology and economics that will enable them to staff the food industry and stakeholders in the private and public sector, such as research laboratories, microbiological laboratories, quality control laboratories, supervisory/regulatory authorities, consultancy companies for food safety management systems
Contributing to the development of Food Science and Technology through scientific research and training of researchers
Sharing scientific knowledge with Food Industries by establishing collaboration projects between the University and the industries

Laboratory of Food Quality Control & Hygiene
Laboratory of General Chemistry
In the Laboratory of Food Chemistry and Analysis functions and the Unit of Human Nutrition in collaboration with other laboratories of the department and other institutions. Finally, the Group of Food Bioprocesses and Biorefineries operates in the context of emerging synergies between the laboratories of the department
